Member Types

  • Active: Currently on the payroll of a library or information center
  • Student: Full-time student in a program of librarianship, library technology, or a library trainee program
  • Retired: Formally withdrawn from active work as a librarian
  • Institutional / affiliate organizations: Educational institutions, libraries, library associations, or similar organizations
  • Trustee: A person serving as a trustee
  • Friends: Any person who desires to be a member
  • Unemployed: Librarian or information specialist not currently employed in a library of information center
  • Vendor: Sells a service or product to libraries
  • Library Support Staff: Serves in a library support capacity including paraprofessionals, library technicians, library assistants, and other library support staff

Membership fees vary by member type and are outlined fully in The Blue Book's Manual of Policies & Procedures, in section 5 on Membership Types and Fees of the Association.
